On January 21, 2026, Volvo unveiled its new 100% electric SUV – the EX60.
During the presentation, the Swedish brand demonstrated its ability to offer an electric vehicle that refuses to compromise – between record range, fast charging, and cutting-edge technologies, we expect the 2027 Volvo EX60 to become our number one seller.
However, there is another element that caught our attention and reconnects with the brand's DNA: the Volvo EX60 will be 100% Swedish-made.
From the Torslanda production line to "made by Volvo" technology and recycled materials, discover the 100% electric Volvo EX60 from the inside out.
Founded in 1927, Volvo built itself as a symbol of Swedish engineering, rooted in the city of Gothenburg, the historic birthplace and global headquarters of the manufacturer.
The Torslanda plant, located a few kilometers from downtown Gothenburg, embodies this "made in Sweden" expertise and has seen the birth of some of the brand's most iconic models.

As early as the 1940s, the PV444 introduced a new vision for the family car, followed in the 1950s by the legendary Amazon, the first car in the world equipped with a three-point seatbelt. Subsequent decades confirmed Gothenburg's influence with the 240 series, which became a global benchmark for longevity and durability, and later with the Volvo 850, a symbol of technological renewal in the 1990s.

More recently, the Torslanda site played a central role in the production of major models like the Volvo XC90. But today, it is the Volvo EX60 that becomes the iconic image of this manufacturing heritage.
Unlike the Volvo EX30 and Volvo EX90, the Swedish brand has decided to return to the core of its DNA and manufacture the entire new Volvo EX60 at the historic Torslanda plant.
The Volvo EX60 production line at the Torslanda plant in Gothenburg relies on industrial processes that allow for the production of its new SPA3 platform, specifically designed for electric vehicles.

One of the key elements of this production is the use of the megacasting technique, which allows for the production of large aluminum cast parts in a single step, replacing hundreds of traditional small components – a solution that simplifies assembly, reduces lead times, and lightens the vehicle's structure.
Since the presentation of the Volvo EX30, a line has been crossed by Volvo in terms of sustainability – for a vehicle to be ecological, it must be so from its conception to its manufacturing.
Here, the Volvo EX60 is no exception with the new "cell-to-body" architecture integrating the battery directly into the chassis structure, which strengthens both vehicle rigidity and passenger safety, while improving the energy density of the pack.
From engine design to batteries, and from assembly to the final roll-out for a pre-delivery road test, the Volvo EX60 represents the best of what Sweden has to offer when it comes to automobiles.
At the time of writing, we do not know the exact opening date for orders or the dates for initial deliveries.
