4315 Boulevard Métropolitain Est, Montreal, QC, H1R 1Z4Following the electrification of the Volvo EX40 in 2023, the Swedish brand continues to update its compact SUV to better meet your needs.
For the 2026 model year, the Volvo EX40 integrates standard safety technologies from the Core trim level and new color options while simplifying the choice of 100% electric powertrains available in the catalog.
In this article, find all the novelties of the 2026 Volvo EX40 available now at Volvo Cars Saint-Léonard.
For 2026, Volvo is discontinuing the Single Motor Extended Range powertrain for the Canadian market.
This model, powered solely by an electric motor at the rear, offered extended range thanks to an 82 kWh battery (net capacity). With approximately 438 km of range according to the EPA, this configuration delivered a power of 248 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque.
However, in a Canadian automotive market where all-wheel drive is an essential asset for safe driving on our roads, Volvo has decided to focus the EX40 offering around a single powertrain: the Twin Motor AWD.
This version integrates two electric motors—one at the front, one at the rear—for a total power of 402 horsepower, with 670 Nm of torque and a range of up to 396 kilometers. The result: lively acceleration (0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds) and better traction, ideal for our winters.
Initially launched as a special edition with an entirely black appearance, the Ultra Black Edition appears on the 2026 Volvo EX40 but with more flexibility in configuration options compared to other Volvo Black Editions in the lineup.
Until now, this trim was characterized by an Onyx Black body, dark wheels, black exterior and interior details, and a dark interior atmosphere.
Now, Volvo allows buyers to further personalize their Volvo EX40 with the addition of three optional colors:
Crystal White Metallic
Denim Blue Metallic
Vapour Grey Metallic
Inside, nothing changes for the Volvo EX40 Ultra Black Edition. Like the other vehicles in the range, it includes all the catalog equipment: panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon audio system, the climate package, and all driving aids.
Regarding safety, Volvo has never compromised. Starting with the Core version, two new advanced safety features are now included as standard.
Among them is Park Assist Front, a front parking assistance system. Thanks to sensors positioned on the front bumper, this system detects obstacles at low speed (such as a wall or a pole) and warns the driver with audible and visual alerts. Coupled with reverse cameras and rear sensors, it greatly facilitates maneuvers in narrow parking lots, particularly in urban environments.
Another major addition: Adaptive Cruise Control. This intelligent system automatically adjusts the vehicle's speed based on traffic. By maintaining a constant distance from the vehicle ahead, it can slow down, brake, or accelerate without driver intervention.
Like the other Volvos in the range, the Swedish brand adds new colors for the 2026 Volvo EX40:
Denim Blue Metallic: a color between blue and gray
Aurora Silver Metallic: a luminous silver with cool reflections, inspired by the northern lights
Forest Lake Metallic: a deep green that evokes Scandinavian nature
However, the addition of new colors sometimes means the permanent discontinuation of others. Indeed, the 2026 model year sees the discontinuation of Silver Dawn, Sage Green, and Fjord Blue.
The federal iZEV program (Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles), which offered a rebate of up to $5,000 CAD, officially ended in June 2025. The Canadian government ended this incentive program for the purchase of zero-emission vehicles after several years of supporting the electrification of the vehicle fleet.
On the other hand, at the time of writing this article, the provincial rebate from the Government of Quebec is still in effect. It can reach up to $4,000 CAD for the purchase or lease of an all-electric vehicle like the 2026 Volvo EX40.
However, be aware: eligibility conditions (version, price, type of financing) may change, and available funds may be exhausted without notice. It is therefore highly recommended to verify the most up-to-date information directly on the Roulez vert program website or with your Volvo dealer in Quebec.
