2027 Volvo EX60: no more compromises

2027 Volvo EX60: no more compromises

When you want to acquire a 100% electric vehicle, there is no shortage of options. Between European, Chinese, and American manufacturers, there are dozens for sale.

However, there are still many obstacles to this transition to 100% electric—cost, range, reliability, resale value, etc.—that still prevent some drivers from taking the plunge.

But could these obstacles be a thing of the past?

On January 21, 2026, Volvo Cars finally unveiled its new 100% electric Volvo EX60, which has a simple goal—to say goodbye to compromises.

With record range, new onboard safety technology, interior space, and sales price, the new 100% electric Volvo EX60 has everything it takes to become the brand's best-selling vehicle.

The New Volvo EX60: A 100% Electric SUV with Scandinavian DNA

But before saying more about the technical specifications of the Volvo EX60, let's talk about its exterior and interior design.

A Design in Continuity with the Volvo EX30 and EX90

When you look at the new Volvo EX60, it's hard not to see the best of both worlds between the Volvo EX30 and the Volvo EX90.

As a result, we find the "Thor" signature on the front lights that illuminate when you approach the vehicle. Regarding the profile, the designers of the Volvo EX60 have remained within the Scandinavian philosophy, with sharp, minimalist lines that favor an aerodynamic coefficient of only 0.26.

A unique feature for the Volvo EX60: the door handles are not on the side of the bodywork or integrated into it, but placed on the frameless door frames. With a simple press on them, the doors open.

As for the rear, there is a vertical light design, divided into two parts to offer the widest possible tailgate opening and thus allow occupants to load significant volumes.

In this regard, the trunk offers 634 liters of space with the rear seatbacks up. Fold the seatbacks individually or together to get up to 1,647 liters of cargo space.

Minimalist Interiors for a Maximalist Experience

But it's inside where occupants will discover a brand-new experience. Indeed, with the Volvo EX60 being designed with the battery integrated into the car's chassis, the space on board is much more noticeable.

Furthermore, this feeling of space is also the result of the addition of an electrochromic roof with dark-tinted laminated glass that blocks approximately 80% of the sun's heat and up to 99.9% of UV rays.

Also, it's hard not to mention the interior without talking about the materials used on board the Volvo EX60; blending design and functionality.

Notably with the seats which offer 4 different upholsteries, including 3 colors (Anthracite, Dawn, Cardamom) with material variations: ventilated Nappa leather, ventilated Nordico, and Nordico.

Finally, since Volvo is known for its vehicles with high-quality audio systems, the Volvo EX60 is no exception, with a choice between the Bose Premium system or the famous Bowers & Wilkins. A first for Volvo, this system integrates speakers into the headrests of the four main seats.

However, the qualities of the new Volvo EX60 interior don't stop there: between the dual-screen philosophy, various ambient lightings, or storage tricks for the whole family, these elements alone deserve a future article.

When Infotainment Becomes One with the Driver

Today, it is essential that onboard infotainment systems make the driver's task easier while providing a fluid, compromise-free experience.

And according to Anders Bell, Chief Engineering and Technology Officer at Volvo Cars, HuginCore represents a new generation of hardware and software architecture.

This platform is based on internal developments combined with solutions from major technological partners like Google, NVIDIA, and Qualcomm Technologies with the goal of offering a simple experience, just like the vehicle itself.

Concretely, drivers will be able to rely on Gemini to find a hotel address directly from their emails, check if a recent purchase can fit in the trunk of the Volvo EX60, or get suggestions for organizing a future trip in the smoothest possible user experience.

An Ever-Safer Volvo EX60

It's impossible to write an article about a new Volvo without mentioning the safety aspect—and in this one, there is a new technology that deserves our full attention.

The Multi-Adaptive Seatbelt from Volvo Cars

For decades, seatbelts have been designed with a bias: they were mostly conceived based on male models with a more or less unique body type.

Here, the new belt adjusts its geometry and better distributes forces according to different body types, improving thoracic and abdominal protection in various accident scenarios. Thanks to real-time data, it can detect the speed and direction of an impact and adjust the belt tension accordingly.

But all the safety innovations don't stop there. As proof, see this video from Volvo Cars explaining all the crash tests performed to certify the new Volvo EX60.

What Are the Configuration Possibilities for the New Volvo EX60?

Now that we have looked at the new features of the Volvo EX60 together, let's take a closer look at what we are entitled to for the Canadian market.

Electric Powertrains Available in Canada

Between the European and American markets, there are always some differences in electric powertrains and range.

For Canada, the Volvo EX60 is available with the P10 AWD powertrain, delivering 503 horsepower and 524 lb-ft of torque, and the P12 AWD powertrain with 671 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque.

Respectively, the P10 AWD powertrain allows an estimated range of up to 514 kilometers, equipped with 20-inch summer tires. As for the P12 AWD version, it promises a range of up to 640 kilometers, also equipped with 20-inch summer tires.

"The EX60 is designed to revolutionize the market," says Anders Bell, Chief Technology Officer at Volvo Cars. "With our new architecture for electric vehicles, we are directly addressing the main concerns of customers considering switching to a 100% electric car. The result is industry-leading range and fast charging, synonymous with peace of mind regarding range."

Additionally, the Volvo EX60 can, thanks to a 400 kW charger and its 800-volt electric architecture, recover 340 kilometers of range in just 10 minutes. Finally, all batteries are guaranteed for 10 years.

Colors Available at Launch

With every launch of a new model, it is possible to configure the Volvo EX60 with different color palettes: Forest Grey, Crystal White, Onyx Black, Denim Blue, Vapour Grey, Dune, Silver Dawn, Bright Dusk.

From the Volvo Cars Canada website, you can find the different color shades to get a more concrete preview.

Regarding the options available in the catalog or the different optional wheels, we will write an article when the configurator is updated.

Volvo EX60 Cross Country for City Dwellers Needing an Escape

The Cross Country range has always been in the brand's DNA. So, at the launch of the new Volvo EX60, it was not surprising to discover a Cross Country finish.

As such, this finish is entitled to a new shade, called Frosted Green, exclusive to this model and inspired by Scandinavian nature.

Also, the Volvo EX60 Cross Country is equipped with specific wheels exclusive to this model, as well as a clearly visible Cross Country logo integrated into the front and rear bumpers and the D-pillar. Brushed stainless steel skid plates are featured at the front and rear while the wheel arches are widened.

Finally, the Cross Country is raised by 20 millimeters compared to the base version and can be further raised by an additional 20 millimeters thanks to the air suspension.
