Did you know that in 2023, the Tesla Model Y and the Tesla Model 3 were the two best-selling electric cars in Canada (Model Y: 29,582 units; Model 3: 29,122 units)? When it comes to electric vehicles, there's no denying that Tesla has made a name for itself in Quebec. However, not everyone who wants to drive an electric car wants to do so with the American brand. With this in mind, Volvo has...

Halfway through 2024, the team at Volvo Cars Saint Léonard is already preparing for 2025.
In addition to deliveries of the new Volvo EX30 and EX90, which will be stepped up over the year, it's the arrival of a new model that's likely to grab all our attention.
In this article, we take a look at what's new in Volvo 2025 and what it means for you.
New names for electric vehicles
For the 2025 model year, the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge electric models will be called EX40 and EC40 respectively. The XC40 name will continue to be used only for the gasoline version of the SUV.
In addition, Volvo has announced that it will also remove the “Recharge” badge from plug-in hybrid models. Instead, models will now be differentiated solely by the T8 suffix indicating different power levels.
This new naming strategy helps to align the Volvo EX40 and EC40 with the new electric vehicles in the range.
Volvo EC40
The Volvo EC40 (formerly C40 Recharge) will receive a new performance software package for its available engines (Single motor: 248 hp or Twin Motor: 402 hp).
Comprising a Performance driving mode, it boosts power by 25 kW and features a unique accelerator pedal mapping for more instantaneous response.
A Black Edition appearance package will also be available. Similar to the Volvo XC60 Black Edition 2024, it includes an Onyx Black tint, gloss black badges, 20-inch black alloy wheels, and a choice of microtech or charcoal textile interiors.
Enfin, malgré le changement de nom, nous pensons que les finitions et les groupes motopropulseurs resteront les mêmes. Toutefois, de légères augmentations de prix pour 2025 sont probables.
Volvo EX40
For the Volvo EX40 (formerly XC40 Recharge), dimensions, interior and powertrains remain unchanged.
However, a new performance software package will also be available, but only for the Twin Motor variant. It includes a 34-horsepower increase, unique pedal mapping for quicker response, and a Performance driving mode to reach 436 hp. Also, like the Volvo EC40, a Black Edition appearance pack will be available to order.
Finally, Volvo will rename the top-of-the-range finish “Ultra”, replacing the former name with “Ultimate”.
Volvo EX60
But what about the new model we mentioned in the introduction to this article?
Even if we still have little information about it, we already know that the Volvo EX60's role, in the medium term, is to replace the Volvo XC60. Goodbye combustion engines, with the Volvo EX60 we're introducing all-new technologies.
Volvo EX60 batteries
The Volvo EX60 2026 could feature a structural battery pack, offering increased energy density, which would translate into increased electric range. Rumors indicate that the EX60 could achieve a remarkable range of 644 km!
The vehicle could also be equipped with an 800-volt battery, double the voltage of the EX90, for faster recharging and more consistent performance.
Volvo EX60 technologies
The new EX60 could also incorporate LIDAR sensors from Luminar and advanced autonomous driving software, Highway Pilot, developed by NVIDIA. This Level 3 system, which enables 100% autonomous driving, will only be available in countries that allow its use.
A new, more eco-responsible production method
As for the production of its new vehicle, Volvo is reportedly planning to integrate a megamolded aluminum floor at the rear of the EX60, enabling a 15-20% weight reduction compared to a traditional molded floor.
Finally, Volvo will initially use new pressed aluminum, but plans to use recycled metal in the future; again with the aim of reducing its carbon footprint.
As soon as we have new information to share, or even photos to illustrate the vehicle, we'll be the first to write an article.
