In the Swedish brand's range, the 2026 Volvo XC40 is positioned as an accessible SUV for families looking for a vehicle offering city-car dimensions without denying space on board.
The 2026 Volvo XC40 B5 AWD is based on the CMA platform, benefiting from a petrol engine with light hybridisation coupled to intelligent all-wheel drive (AWD).

What about the engine and transmission?
Under the bonnet, the 2026 Volvo XC40 B5 packs the B420T2 engine, a 4-cylinder in-line turbo with direct injection. This 1969cc block is designed entirely in aluminium, with a bore of 82.0mm and a stroke of 93.2mm, for a compression ratio of 10.5:1. It runs on a DOHC system with 4 valves per cylinder, and a 1-3-4-2 ignition sequence.
Maximum power reaches 247bhp between 5400 and 5700rpm, for torque of 350Nm available between 1800 and 4800rpm. Idle speed is calibrated at 750 rpm ± 50, with a recommended fuel of 95 to 98 RON.
Lightweight hybridisation is provided by an integrated starter-generator (ISG) delivering 13 bhp (10 kW) and 40 Nm additional power at 3300 rpm, optimising fuel economy in town and acceleration.
The gearbox is an 8-speed automatic (AWF8G45), with a final ratio of 3.329, ensuring smooth transitions and excellent responsiveness. The all-wheel drive distributes torque intelligently according to grip and driving style.
How does the 2026 Volvo XC40 perform on the road?
Thanks to its powertrain, the XC40 B5 AWD achieves 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds, for a top speed of 180 km/h (electronically limited).
The approved fuel consumption figures are as follows:
- City : 10,1 L/100 km
- Highway : 7,8 L/100 km
- Mix of both : 9,1 L/100 km

How does the chassis behave?
The XC40's chassis has been developed to combine comfort and dynamism. The front suspension is based on a MacPherson system, with coil springs, hydraulic dampers and anti-roll bar. At the rear is a independent multi-link suspension.
The electric rack-and-pinion steering offers a ratio of 15.8:1, with 2.7 turns of the wheel and a turning radius of 11.4 metres, making urban manoeuvring easier.
Braking is based on ventilated discs: 322 mm at the front (thickness 28 mm) and 302 mm at the rear (thickness 12 mm), complemented by a ABS, EBD and EBA system. The Volvo 2026 XC40 stops in 36 metres from 100 to 0 km/h.
What are the dimensions of the 2026 Volvo XC40?
At 4440 mm long, 1863 mm wide (excluding mirrors) and 1652 mm high, the XC40 is compact without compromising interior space. The base of 2702 mm guarantees stability and comfort.
It offers a ground clearance of 205 mm, interesting crossing angles (approach 20.3°, windward 21.8°, leaving 26.9°) and can tackle snowbanks of 450 mm at reduced speed.

What does the interior of the 2026 Volvo XC40 look like?
