Did you know that in 2023, the Tesla Model Y and the Tesla Model 3 were the two best-selling electric cars in Canada (Model Y: 29,582 units; Model 3: 29,122 units)? When it comes to electric vehicles, there's no denying that Tesla has made a name for itself in Quebec. However, not everyone who wants to drive an electric car wants to do so with the American brand. With this in mind, Volvo has...

The year 2023 marks major changes in the Volvo lineup. We already mentioned it in the article about the 2023 Volvo XC60, the Swedish brand is revising all of its names, versions and even configuration possibilities.
As a result, the Volvo XC40 is not exempt from these changes, which will take place as early as 2023. But for the compact SUV of the range, this redesign goes further; new headlight design, new bumpers, hybridization and new wheels. A facelift that won't go unnoticed on Montreal streets.
Interested in buying a Volvo XC40? Want to learn more about the 2023 model year?
In this article, we explain all the new features of the 2023 Volvo XC40 that can be ordered now in Quebec!
The new engines and the new design
Before detailing the versions of the 2023 Volvo XC40, a quick update on the new styling and new engines.
A design in the era of time
Every year, the Swedish brand evolves its models aesthetically. For the year 2023, the Volvo XC40 benefits from a face-lift, updating its design since its first launch.
Starting with the headlights that take over the Volvo C40 lighting identity, a more angular bumper and the design of new wheels up to 21".
The new colors of 2023
This year, our favorite is the new Fjord Blue color that makes this 2023 Volvo XC40 even more Swedish. But the new features don't stop there:
- Sage Green Metallic
- Silver Dawn Metallic
- Or Bright Dusk Metallic

B4 AWD and B5 AWD engines
The year 2023 also marks the hybridization of all the engines of the Volvo XC40. This will mean the end of the T4 and T5 names and the introduction of the B4 and B5 names.
What does this change entail?
From now on, all engines in the 2023 Volvo XC40 will be Mild Hybrid. Thanks to a 48v battery, the vehicle will be more fuel efficient and will recover more energy during braking. This same kinetic energy, normally lost, is now converted into electricity.
Finally, the two B4 and B5 engines will be available only in 4 wheel drive (All Wheel Drive).
The new interior and exterior versions of the 2023 Volvo XC40
They have been present with Volvo vehicles for several years, but the Momentum, Inscription and R-Design versions are leaving the catalog for good, making way for interior finishes that are distinct from the exterior.
This new look gives future buyers more flexibility in configuring their vehicle.
Distinctions between indoor and outdoor versions
When you purchase a Volvo XC40, you get a set of inseparable interior/exterior features. To personalize your vehicle, you had to add options that you had to pay for.
With the 2023 model, the Swedish brand offers you the possibility to create the vehicle to your liking. For example, combine a Plus trim with the Bright or Dark exterior. As well as with the Ultimate finish.
Core, Plus, Ultimate
Introduced with the arrival of the Volvo XC40 Recharge, here is some information about these interior finishes.
Core: The standard equipment is equivalent to the old Momentum finish.
You will find the technology and safety equipment (blind spot detection, emergency braking, lane keeping assist and sign reading) that Volvo is known for.
The Core interior finish is only available with the Base exterior finish.
Plus (B5 engine only): A mid-level that corresponds to the former Momentum Plus trim and allows for combination with the Bright / Dark exterior finishes.
Ultimate (B5 engine only): The ultimate level of equipment corresponding to the previous Inscription trim. You will find the Climate Package, Pilot Assist, 360 Camera and Harman Kardon premium sound.
As for the external configurations?
The 2023 Volvo XC40 is available with Base (formerly Momentum), Bright (formerly Inscription), Dark (formerly R-Design) trims.
What about the Recharge versions?
The Volvo XC40 Recharge is the first 100% electric vehicle in the line-up. It has just been launched in Canada and already benefits from all the new styling and technologies.
As for orders, they are available through a sales representative. Note: the Plus and Ultimate versions will be the two versions available the soonest.
