Following the discontinuation of the Volvo S60 Polestar Engineered in 2024, it is now the turn of the wagon version to say farewell. Volvo recently announced that the V60 Polestar Engineered model will cease production after several years of loyal service.
In this article, we explain why the brand is discontinuing the model and how to find a recent used model on the Quebec market.
Polestar is a Swedish automotive performance brand that began life in 1996 as Flash Engineering, a racing team founded by Christian Dahl.
It began as a Volvo racing partner before becoming a vehicle preparation division. In 2015, Volvo Cars acquired Polestar and transformed it into its performance division, focusing on the production of high-end models such as the Polestar Engineered versions of the S60 and V60.
In 2017, Polestar was separated from Volvo and became an independent brand, dedicated to designing high-performance electric vehicles, with the launch of the Polestar 1 and then the Polestar 2.
However, Volvo kept the Polestar name to launch sporty and plug-in hybrid models, such as the Volvo S60, V60 and XC60.
The most recent version of the V60 Polestar Engineered, combined a 312 bhp turbo engine with a 143 bhp electric motor for the rear axle, producing a total of 455 bhp and 523 lb-ft of torque while offering a range of 70 kilometres in electric mode.
Officially, Volvo has not yet communicated why it has decided to cease production of the Volvo V60 Polestar Engineered.
However, according to a Volvo spokesperson :"Volvo Cars has decided to end production of the V60 Polestar Engineered model, concentrating instead on the Cross Country variant, which is more popular in the United States and Canada."
Without citing any particular reason, we assume that the low sales of estate cars in the United States last year definitively closed the fate of the V60 Polestar Engineered.
In fact, the brand sold fewer than 3,500 estate cars in the United States. This represents less than 3% of the company's total volume here, while SUVs accounted for 85.8% of total sales.
In Canada, demand for SUVs continues to grow, and the disappearance from the catalogue of the Volvo V60 and V60 Polestar Engineered models (apart from the cross-country versions) was inevitable.
However, it is entirely possible to find a used V60 Polestar Engineered for sale in Quebec, notably through Volvo's Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) program.
Volvo's CPO certification guarantees that each vehicle has been thoroughly inspected by Volvo-certified technicians while benefiting from 5 years of coverage with unlimited mileage, including batteries.
But be warned, the V60 Polestar Engineered is a relatively rare model on the second-hand market, not least because of its limited production run and its popularity, which is likely to increase with its demise.
If you are interested in this particular model, it is highly recommended that you contact a sales consultant at Volvo Cars Saint-Léonard who can perform a personalized search to find a used V60 Polestar Engineered for sale in Quebec.
